Okay, so shortly after I posted this I realized there were several very misleading aspects of this pic. I should have made it clear that there was a forth party involved in this scene, perhaps by scattering a bunch of broken weapons around or, if I could have made it work, an arm and weapon coming from the viewer's perspective. Also Trowan is not supposed to be smiling. I tried to tweak his mouth at the end, but I ended up not liking it and trying to fix it. In the end I accidentally made him smile. 

Now for prizes:
gets an imaginary chocolate cake for being 100% correct! Trowan is, in fact, that sword. He can transform between human and sword form at will. (So in reality, no one would be able to see him there. I just needed an abstract representation of his presence that everyone could identify because I wanted to show his sword form too.) gets an imaginary strawberry cake for getting quite close. He's not exactly trapped in the sword, but you were on the right track.

Congradulations to , who was the only one to note that the person on the ground has a sword sheath while the little girl does not. You get an imaginary cherry pie! While we're on the subject, the person on the ground is not a boy, it's a girl. (Yeah, I know the angle's weird so it's hard to tell.) Her name was Trill and she was Trowan's partner (the only person in the world who can safely touch Trowan when he's in sword form) up until the moment she died. Shortly after he partnered with the little girl, Nan, in one of those "we're going to die if we don't do this so we might as well try" types of decisions. Trill was also his fiance, so Trowan's "I'm going to murderify you" expression is a result of the person lying dead, not the cause.

, , , and all get imaginary chocolate eclairs because they noticed that all the characters are wearing similar uniforms. They all go to the same school, where people with their powers (it comes in two types, weapons and wielders) are trained to become secret protectors of their country and its people. That's why, when their country was invaded, the enemy army made it a priority to find this school and neutralize the threat as quickly as possible. (Zakuro-Kona also get's a bonus imaginary jelly filled doughnut for calling Nan adorable. This is true. No matter what else, Nan must always be adorable. It's a fundamental law of the universe.)

, , , , , , , , and all get imaginary chocolate chip cookies for guessing Trowan has some sort of influence over Nan. When a weapon is transformed and the wielder is touching them there's a mind link that also occurs so they can talk to each other, among other things. A portion of a weapon's skill is transferred to the wielder when they fight together, and a weapon can compel their wielder to take certain actions, (dodge, block, attack, that sort of thing) but they can't exactly control them. (KuchisakeKiss gets a bonus imaginary cream filled doughnut for being basically right. Trowan does teach Nan how to be a warrior. He has to, what with professional soldiers out for their blood.)
