Kia

So I was supposed to create a fantasy character as a tie breaker for Monthly OC and this person's been bouncing around in the back of my subconscious for a little while so I used this excuse to bring her out into the light of day.

Ahem.

The land of Fushan is a beautiful place where people live on floating mountains and technologically advanced flying cities. Life may be a bit crowded for some, but it's full of opportunity and promise and, most importantly, safety. Yes, the sky is safe. It is only the very foolish, or the very reckless, or the very desperate who even contemplate setting foot on the ground, where the terrible lizards roam. The floating society needs to be supported somehow though. Raw materials must be harvested and not everything can be manufactured in the air, where space is precious. It's too dangerous to send people to do those jobs but that's alright, that's what slaves are for.

Kia was born a slave chained to the ground. She has no idea who her parents were, or if they're alive or not. Her early childhood memories are nothing but pain and fear, with the exception of the voices, which she could always remember hearing. One day when she was eight years old there was a dinosaur attack. Nothing to get too excited about, they happened from time to time. Kia was nowhere to be found after the attack and she was written off as a loss. 

She wasn't dead though. Turns out those voices had been dinosaurs all along and the high emotions she experienced during the attack unlocked her ability to speak back. She left with them. Soon she found that every dinosaur she encountered not only talked to her, but seemed to love her as well. And she loved them in return. Kia was protected, nurtured, and raised by the dinosaurs. She hasn't forgotten who she is though, and watches other human activity closely.

Kia would be content to live the rest of her life safe with her dinosaur family but there are troubling signs on the horizon, and soon Kia must make a choice. It is a choice that, one way or another, risks everything she's grown to care about. 


About the pic: So anyway this is Kia with a baby T-Rex she sometimes babysits. This was my first time attempting a dinosaur and I'm pretty happy with the result. I figured those stripes were for camafloge and he'd loose them as he grew older. I'll probably tweak Kia's design (especially her clothes) in the future but I'm happy enough for now.
